It’s been a busy month for the woople developers, and contrary to popular belief, we haven’t been playing World of Warcraft. We’ve actually been working on a fairly beefy release, but while it’s beefy, it might not be too juicy.
We’ve been working on a lot of “behind the scenes” stuff having to do with security. Your woople account is safer than ever, which means you can feel safe uploading your super-duper secret videos, even if your meanest competitor also has a woople account.
Part of our security upgrades also meant adding a new permission to the application. Now you can pick one (or many) of your users, and give them access to the Content Manager. Now you busy bosses can delegate the content management tasks.
We’ve been having issues where our email notifications were landing in our customers’ junk mail boxes. This is a huge pain for our customers, and our support staff as well. We switched to a new email service which we hope will improve this issue. Thank you to everyone for being patient as we worked on finding a better way to get you the notifications you need.
You can take a look at the bugs we squashed below in our detailed release notes:
General
- The terms of service have been updated.
Security
- Removed all reference to email addresses from our logs.
- Added SSL requirement for all requests.
- All content hosted on Amazon is now transferred via secure protocols (SSL or RTMPE)
- Scoped all current user session requests to the current account; there is zero possibility that a user can log into another account.
- Added time expiring authenticated urls for the following content: Account Image, Channel Image, Course Image, Package Image, Training Supplements.
- Woople administrators no longer use shared login credentials.
Account Manager
- Account owners can now choose to grant permission to users to access the Content Manager. Users with the content manager permission have full access to the content manager, so only grant this permission to super-trusted users.
Support Upgrades
- When you have a support request, woople support personnel can now log into your account as the account owner to help resolve your issues. Better service for all, in other words.
Content Manager
- Added support for .mpg video formats.
- We’ve been having issues where our emails are going to our customers’ junk mail folers. Now, all emails are now routed through madmimi.com email marketing. This ensures more reliable delivery.
- Signups to the newsletter via http://woople.com now send an email confirmation to avoid spam complaints.
Bugs
- Completed course checkboxes are now showing up after logging out and logging back in. Thanks for finding this bug Jude. You rock.
- Adding users to groups is now working correctly in Internet Explorer. It is now also much faster for all browsers.
- Source list selection is now more reliable.
- Editing an episode title while encoding is now possible.
- Editing labels elsewhere in the system while encoding an episode is now possible.
- The URL bar no longer will occasionally display “gobbledigook”.
- The login screen looks better in Internet Explorer 8.
- Reset My Password button now works in Internet Explorer 7.
Performance
- Selecting and highlighting episodes is faster.
- Channel image urls are no longer sent via HTTP requests.
We hope you enjoy this release, and you can look forward to more awesomeness in our next release.
Happy Learning,
The woople development team
