Find Your Creative Niche

March 26, 2014

By J. Summer Smart

If you are not the creative type, then finding your creative niche is easier said than done. For many, a certain environment helps get the creative juices flowing. Perhaps playing your favorite music or being in the right mood does the trick. One thing is certain: you can’t force creativity. Sometimes creative moments happen when least expected, like when you’re driving or performing simple daily tasks. Regardless of your status with your creative projects or endeavors, you can find inspiration from unexpected sources and be intentional about being creatively productive.

Make Time for What You Love: It can be difficult to make time for the things you really want to do, especially if you have pressing responsibilities taking up your time. The key here is to do something on the project no matter how small. You can make progress by dedicating small amounts of time and working toward the larger goal of completion.

Take Notes: Once you start dedicating time to your creative projects, inspiration has a way of finding you. This is a good thing! Make sure you are ready to capture ideas because just as inspiration can come suddenly, it can be gone in an instant. Write down or sketch your ideas as you think of them. Use your phone, or whatever tools you prefer, to record your ideas right then and there. Use the resources at hand, and make sure you don’t let those ideas get away.

Don’t Let Your Expectations Get in the Way: You may have certain expectations of what your project should look like: expectations for quality, quantity, or a completion date. Don’t be disappointed by the progress you make compared to your expectations. Set realistic goals, and evaluate yourself on what you have accomplished in order to set checkpoints that you can live up to.

Awaken your creative groove. Make time to do the things you love, and be ready when the moment strikes you. Not every project will turn out exactly the way you want, but each one contributes to your larger creation and keeps you in the creative zone.

Can Social Media Really Help My Business?

March 24, 2014

By Stephanie Wharton

Between increasing sales and providing services, many small businesses struggle to devote time to managing a Facebook page or a Twitter account. However, social media is becoming more and more important to today’s customers. For example, according to the CMO Council, 38% of consumers report that they’ll consult some sort of social media when they make their next automobile purchase.

Here is a great article about five ways you can use social media to your advantage.

Click on the link to view Bryan Collins’ full article, but here are his five points:

1. Become a master of one network.
2. Allocate a set amount of time each day for managing your social media presence.
3. Make social media part of your customer relationship management strategy.
4. Think digital.
5. Measure and adjust your content.

Make the most of social media to share more about your company and increase your customer base. Take action and increase your company’s presence through your preferred social media network.

Sincere Intentions

February 21, 2014

By Stephanie Wharton

It’s good to devote some extra attention,

But I must study my daily intention.

Do I put others’ needs above my own?

Or do I elevate myself to the throne,

Acting like it’s been a stressful day

Simply because things didn’t go my way?

Trying to make one day perfect

Won’t make up for daily neglect.

My everyday love must be sincere

To strangers, friends, and those most dear.

My actions must say, “You’re important to me.”

The words I use must match what they see.

Daily activities must be performed with grace,

Patience, tenderness, a smile on my face.

Day in, day out I’ll strive to show

Everyday love to all I know.

Professional Development on a Budget

February 20, 2014

by J. Summer Smart

Business is speeding ahead, and keeping skill sets current can be a challenge. Perhaps you find yourself in the position of wanting to develop some of your professional skills, but you need to do it on a budget. Here are some money-saving tips for taking your skills to the next level.

Get a Library Card:

Subscriptions to your local library can pay off in a big way. Many libraries now offer streaming services, so you can get audiobooks and resources for learning on the go. While visiting your local library might not seem convenient, it is easy on the budget. Click here to view programs and services available at many libraries. Type in your zip code to find libraries near you, and go to your local library’s website to view the resources available.

Subscribe to Newsletters:

Almost every business or industry expert sends out some form of newsletter. This is a great way to stay current on industry trends and learn key insights from people on the cutting edge of leading business processes, methodologies, and more.

Join Professional Organizations:

The benefits of joining professional organizations can offset the initial cost. Many times you have the opportunity to attend local events with guest speakers or industry panels. In addition, they may provide you with online access to videos, articles, or forums, adding to their value as a resource.

Seek Out Online Tools:

YouTube, together with other hosted video sites, is a great place to learn all kinds of things. You can search through an endless array of topics and learn from experts. Be sure to crosscheck information to ensure your source is reputable.

Maximize Available Resources:

Take advantage of the resources you already have access to at your place of business. As a user on the Woople platform, you have a wealth of learning opportunities at your fingertips. Improve your skills through the customer service, sales, and leadership educational courses available.

The most important thing you can do is invest a little time in yourself each day. Read, observe, and listen. Challenge yourself and expand your knowledge. Learning is a continual process, and it’s important to continue on a learning path that will benefit you both personally and professionally. Find the best method for you, whether it’s reading articles, watching instructional videos, or making your own reading list. Set some time aside each day for personal development, pick one area you want to improve, and go to work on yourself consistently.
