Introducing the Woople Dashboard

January 03, 2011

Welcome to the Woople Dashboard

One of our biggest areas of opportunity for the woople platform is helping to guide our learners through their library. When you have a learner with access to a thousand videos or more, it can be quite challenging. Enter the Woople dashboard: a place where you can see courses and channels you’ve started but haven’t finished, the most popular courses and channels in your network, and some other nice surprises.

How to Use the Woople Dashboard

Continue Learning Module

The Continue Learning module has two primary purposes:

  • You can visit the three most recent courses or channels which you have started but haven’t finished. You can also see how much time you have left. When you click the play button, you’ll be taken to the next video in the course or channel.
  • You can jump into the library like you could do before.

Most Popular module

The most popular module shows you the most popular courses and channels across your entire network.

Update Your Profile

Now you can update your own name and email address! You can also upload a photo, which will come in handy as we build more social features into the system.

Access your full report

You can now access your full report from your dashboard. Just select the “details” button.

Today we’re opening up the Woople Dashboard for beta testing. We’ve asked a group of fifty elite Woople learners to play around with the dashboard give us feedback before we release it to everyone.

If you’re interested in joining our beta test group, please send us an email and we’ll add you to our list.

New Feature: Custom Categories for Education Partners

October 04, 2010

Our education partners can now assign unique categories to courses and channels for different packages. So, for example, Paul can give a universal category to a course as “motivation” for all of his customers, but he can also categorize the same course as “Workout 1” for specific packages. Whoever is on that package will see the course appear under both categories.

Our goal for this feature is to allow our education partners the ability to target course material at specific accounts or groups of accounts in a way that makes sense to them.

Here’s how it works:

First, Paul selects his Channel, and assigns a universal category of “motivation.” This category will be visible to all of his subscribers.

Now, Paul can create a new category using our popper.

When Paul selects the magic button, he’ll be taken to a popper where he can specify which package or packages receive the custom category.

So now, if I’m on the test package, this channel will be available in workout 1, as well as in motivation. And if I’m not on the test package, I won’t see workout 1, but I will see motivation.

New Feature: Introducing Woople Bookmarks

September 21, 2010

The vast majority of woople learners have access to a very large library of courses and channels.  For all of its strengths, this diverse source of information has some disadvantages. Specifically, our customers have told us when they identify an exceptionally valuable video, they struggle retrieving that video at a later date.

We know there are many different navigational challenges for us to address. Search, assignments, and goals all share a common objective of guiding a learner through their course library.

While acknowledging the large amount of work yet to be completed, we’re ready to release a new feature that represents a good first step. We’ve filled the final square on our content navigator (gasp), which will make our Type A customers feel all warm inside. Here’s how it works.

The Final Square

Getting Started

The first time you select this final square, you will see a screen explaining what it means to star a video, and how to star your first video.

Starring Your First Video

When you come across a video you want to retrieve later, select the star icon on the top left hand corner of the video player.

Accessing Your Bookmarks

When you select the Star section later on, you’ll see a list of the videos you want to access later. You can select any part of the item to watch the video, or, you can select the “snapback” button to jump back into the course or channel.

Reordering your Bookmarks

One of the best parts of our bookmark system is that you can drag and drop your starred videos in the starred list. Simply click and drag your videos in the order you prefer, so you can put your super-duper favourites right at the top of your list.

UPDATE 10/11/2010: This feature is now in production, and live for all of our customers.

We’re opening up this feature to private beta testers this week, and if all goes well, we should be rolling this feature out to all of our customers in the near future.

If you are interesting in joining our private beta, please send me an email and we’ll turn the feature on for you. You’ll get to see a brand new feature way before anyone else, and that’s awesome.

Friday August 20th, 2010 Release Notes

August 23, 2010

A big hello to all of our customers out there. It’s been a long time since our last blog post, but not to worry - we’ve been hard at work building awesome learning tools for you. Here’s what’s new in woople:

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed a bug where you can create two users with the same email address if you duplicated the address with ALL CAPS. Big shout out to Ben for finding this one.
  • Fixed a bug where the report legend was inaccurate on months with 31 days. Some of you noticed that your monthly bar wasn’t turning green until you hit 217, when the legend said you only needed 210. Congrats to anyone who found that problem!
  • Fixed a bug where sometimes the episode upload indicator did not show up.

Enhancements:

  • Fixed an issue where some users were being logged out of their woople account without noticing. They were able to watch videos but their progress is now logged. Now, you will receive a message asking you to log in again if you’re accidentally logged out for any reason.
  •  Viewings are now recorded as soon as you start watching a video! No longer need to recommend the video at the end in order to receive a viewing credit.
  • However, viewings aren’t considered to be “Finished” until you recommend the video. You can only unlock the next lesson in a course when a video has been finished.
  • Account Owners are now prompted to add three users when they log into an account where they’re the only users.
  • Users are guided to watch a video when they first log in.
  • Our “Client X” customers (you know who you are! ;) now have a link to the signup page to purchase elective content. Chris worked really hard to make sure the form in the signup page is automatically filled for you when you arrive!

So that’s about it for now everyone.

Looking forward to our next release, it’s got some goodies in there that we think you’re going to love.

All the best,

The Woople Developers

Updated Terms of Service for woople

April 22, 2010

Hi Everyone!

We have recently updated the Terms of Service as part of our implementation of a new feature that allows certain users to upload user-generated content using the woople Content Manager. Remember that you are responsible for the videos and files you upload. You should only upload files that you created or own, or you must have permission from the owners to do so. Otherwise, uploads are subject to removal. We hope you enjoy this exciting new feature.

We’re writing this description in plain english as a description that you can read quickly. The only agreement that is legally binding is the Terms of Service exactly as written. You can access the full Terms of Service by clicking the link on the bottom right hand corner of your woople account.

Happy Learning

Woople Beryllium Lots O' Bugs and Security Fixes Release

April 09, 2010

It’s been a busy month for the woople developers, and contrary to popular belief, we haven’t been playing World of Warcraft. We’ve actually been working on a fairly beefy release, but while it’s beefy, it might not be too juicy.

We’ve been working on a lot of “behind the scenes” stuff having to do with security. Your woople account is safer than ever, which means you can feel safe uploading your super-duper secret videos, even if your meanest competitor also has a woople account.

Part of our security upgrades also meant adding a new permission to the application. Now you can pick one (or many) of your users, and give them access to the Content Manager. Now you busy bosses can delegate the content management tasks.

We’ve been having issues where our email notifications were landing in our customers’ junk mail boxes. This is a huge pain for our customers, and our support staff as well. We switched to a new email service which we hope will improve this issue. Thank you to everyone for being patient as we worked on finding a better way to get you the notifications you need.

You can take a look at the bugs we squashed below in our detailed release notes:

General

  • The terms of service have been updated.

Security

  • Removed all reference to email addresses from our logs.
  • Added SSL requirement for all requests.
  • All content hosted on Amazon is now transferred via secure protocols (SSL or RTMPE)
  • Scoped all current user session requests to the current account; there is zero possibility that a user can log into another account.
  • Added time expiring authenticated urls for the following content: Account Image, Channel Image, Course Image, Package Image, Training Supplements.
  • Woople administrators no longer use shared login credentials.

Account Manager

  • Account owners can now choose to grant permission to users to access the Content Manager. Users with the content manager permission have full access to the content manager, so only grant this permission to super-trusted users.

Support Upgrades

  • When you have a support request, woople support personnel can now log into your account as the account owner to help resolve your issues. Better service for all, in other words.

Content Manager

  • Added support for .mpg video formats.

Email

  • We’ve been having issues where our emails are going to our customers’ junk mail folers. Now, all emails are now routed through madmimi.com email marketing. This ensures more reliable delivery.
  • Signups to the newsletter via http://woople.com now send an email confirmation to avoid spam complaints.

Bugs

  • Completed course checkboxes are now showing up after logging out and logging back in. Thanks for finding this bug Jude. You rock.
  • Adding users to groups is now working correctly in Internet Explorer. It is now also much faster for all browsers.
  • Source list selection is now more reliable.
  • Editing an episode title while encoding is now possible.
  • Editing labels elsewhere in the system while encoding an episode is now possible.
  • The URL bar no longer will occasionally display “gobbledigook”.
  • The login screen looks better in Internet Explorer 8.
  • Reset My Password button now works in Internet Explorer 7.

Performance

  • Selecting and highlighting episodes is faster.
  • Channel image urls are no longer sent via HTTP requests.

We hope you enjoy this release, and you can look forward to more awesomeness in our next release.

Happy Learning,

The woople development team
